CEP 810 Teaching Understanding with Technology
Instructor: Leigh Graves Wolf CEP 810 is an introductory course into the program laying down a framework for the rest of the degree. The course focused on learning theories, professional learning networks, the technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) framework, and innovative uses of technology for learning. One facet of this course that I really enjoyed was the multiple ways I was assessed. I created many videos and blog entries detailing my adventures in Teaching Understanding with Technology. |
CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education
Instructors: Leigh Graves Wolf & W. Marsland CEP 811 is an extension of 810, following directly after that course ends. In CEP 811 I delved deeper into the ideas explored in 810. With a focus on TPACK, learning theory, and developing professional networks through creating a digital presence. I investigated these ideas by exploring educational technologies, such as Makey, Makey, Rasperry Pi, and squishy circuits. Experiences with these technologies were documented on a blog continued from CEP 810. |
Fall 2013
CEP 800 Learning in School and Other Settings
Instructor: Danah Henriksen In CEP 800 I applied learning theory to problems of student understanding and transfer of knowledge. I created a lesson plan that required elements of backward design to derive appropriate learning goals from standards and learning theory. This course was essential for developing a greater understanding of educational learning theory. Learning theory past and present drove much of the course work and develop of my own understanding of student understanding. |
CEP 812 Apply Education Technology to Practice
Instructors: Michelle Schira Hagerman & Emily Stone CEP 812 I had to investigate “wicked” problems and find solutions based in technology. I drew from scholarly research I had conducted to gain a deeper understanding to solve those problems. I read from James Paul Gee' writings to understand had games can be used to enhance student learning. To help facilitate a deeper understanding of the material I participated in a peer group in which I thoughtfully critiqued my peer's work. |
Spring 2014
CEP 817 Learning Technology through Design
Instructors: Punya Mishra & Jon Good CEP 817 is centered around design. I studied various theories behind design through experimentation and observation. Incorporating these elements carefully into the design of a web space for learning a topic of my choice. For this class I chose a unit on proportional reasoning that I was teaching my students. My work underwent several iterations gaining feedback from instructors, peers, and from the target user group before being completed. |
CEP 815 Technology and Leadership
Leigh Graves Wolf, Benjamin Gleason, & Josh Rosenberg In CEP 815 I studied various leadership theories from numerous sources in education and in business. I created policy briefs to emulate interesting problems that could potentially arise in a school or district. I ended the course by investigating problems of practice and design. My solutions were inspired by leadership theories studied earlier in the course. |
Summer 2014
CEP 820 Teaching Students Online
Instructors: Anne Heintz, Leigh Graves Wolf, & Michelle Schira Hagerman In CEP 820 I explored various learning management systems. I learned of various strategies and learning theories to apply to establish best practice for online environments and ensure student success. For this course I had to select a learning management system and create a course module. Careful consideration was given to accessibility and student learning outcomes. |
CEP 822 Approaches to Education Research
Instructors: David Wong & Tatyana Li In CEP 822 I conducted research to answer solvable problems in education. I studied basic statistics in order to learn how to interpret evidence presented in research. This allowed me to better assess the validity of experimental designs posed in academic articles. I ended the course with a research review of a problem of practice on math anxiety using the many research skills I had developed throughout the semester. |
Fall 2014
CEP 807 Proseminar in Educational Technology
Instructor: Matthew Koehler In CEP 807 I created an online portfolio summarizing my work in the Master's of the Arts Educational Technology (MAET) program. The process was meticulous as each page was created and then revised through the use of peer and instructor feedback. I wrote several essays reflecting on my time in the MAET program and my plans and goals for the future. This portfolio focused my coursework into an excellent argument of my mastery in the MAET program. |
CEP 813 Electronic Portfolios
Instructors: Michelle Schira Hagerman & Sandra Sawaya In CEP 813 I studied assessment learning theory, with a focus on formative assess and understanding by design. I learned to use electronic portfolios to not only assess student learning, but to render high quality feedback and inform my own instructional practices. I created an electronic portfolio containing all of my work in CEP 813 that stands as an exemplar for applying electronic portfolios to my professional needs. |
